Largest-Crown- Width Prediction Models for 53 Species in the Western United States
نویسنده
چکیده
The mean crown diameters of stand-grown trees 5.0-in. dbh and larger were modeled as a function of stem diameter, live-crown ratio, stund-level basal area, latitude, longitude, elevation, and Hopkins bioclimatic index for 53 tree species in the western United States. Stem diameter was statistically signi@ant in al l models , and a quadrat ic term for s tem diameter was requiredfor some species . Crown rat io and/or Hopkins index also improved the models for most species . A term, for s tand-level basal area was not generally needed but did yield some minor improvementfor a,few species. Coeficients of variation from the regression solutions rangedJrom 17 to 33%, and model R2 rangedfrom 0.15 to 0.85. Simpler models, based solely on stem diameter, are also presented. West. J. Appl. For. 19(4):245-251.

Height and Crown Area Distribution of Cionura erecta Shrub lands in chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, Using Probability Distribution Functions
Importance of probability distribution functions in natural resource studies is increasing due to their effective roles in better understanding of vegetation structure and providing conceptual models of quantitative indices of plant species. The present study was performed to model the distribution of height and canopy area of Cionura erecta L. shrub, using probability distribution functions in...
متن کاملAllometric equations for determining volume and biomass of Acer monspessulanum L. subsp. cinerascens multi-stemmed trees
Due to the importance of Acer monspessulanum in Iranian mountain forests, a study was carried out to reliably estimate its woody biomass and growing volume via allometric equations. Four transects, five trees in each were chosen randomly. The characteristics of standing trees including: diameter at root collar, height, number of stems and crown width were measured, then trees were finally cut d...
متن کاملA review of logistic regression models used to predict post-fire tree mortality of western North American conifers
Abstract. Logistic regression models used to predict tree mortality are critical to post-fire management, planning prescribed burns and understanding disturbance ecology. We review literature concerning post-fire mortality prediction using logistic regression models for coniferous tree species in the western USA. We include synthesis and review of: methods to develop, evaluate and interpret log...
متن کاملThe Feasibility Study on the Prediction of Ploidy Levels Base on Pollen Dimensions in Rosa
Ploidy level is one of important factors for plant breeders; therefore models that can predict it are very practical. To estimate of ploidy levels in some species, hybrids and cultivars of Rosa, dimensions of over 500 pollens include pollen length, width and area measured at ABRII. The calculations were carried out in several stages. First, Ploidy levels were regressed with pollen dimensions, a...
متن کاملPrediction of Work Roll Initial Crown according to Desired Strip Profile in Hot Rolling
The final hot strip profile is a superposition of the roll initial crown, the roll bending and flattening crown, the roll wearing crown and the roll thermal crown. In this research, linear regression models are proposed to predict the roll force, the roll wearing crown and the roll thermal crown using experimental data provided by Mobarake Steel Complex (MSC). The short beam theory based on ela...
